It’s not difficult to see why the Giulia and Stelvio are such popular models for Alfa Romeo. They both offer impressive performance, superb luxury, and Italian style which are unmatched by any other brand. There is a lot that these two vehicles have in common, but there are some important differences as well, and to help make sense of all of it, we’ve put together this guide.
Engine | Horsepower | Torque | Drivetrain | Standard Suspension | Fuel Economy (city / highway / combined) | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2025 Giulia | 2.0L I4 DI Turbo | 280 | 306 lb-ft | RWD / AWD Optional | Sport Suspension | 24 / 33 / 27 |
2025 Stelvio | 2.0L I4 DI Turbo | 280 | 306 lb-ft | AWD | Normal-Duty Suspension | 22 / 28 / 24 |
The Giulia and Stelvio are built on the same platform and use the same engine, but there is more than you might expect that sets them apart. The Guilia, with its lower center of gravity and standard rear-wheel drive, is made to appeal more to enthusiasts. This is further emphasized by the standard sport suspension found on the Giulia, although both vehicles offer active suspension as an option, and Alfa Romeo imbues every vehicle with a healthy dose of excitement.
The Giulia gets better fuel economy, especially on the highway. Some of that advantage is because the Stelvio has standard AWD, and the fuel-economy numbers for the Giulia are for the RWD version. AWD-equipped Giulia models will have fuel economy numbers that are bit closer to the Stelvio, but as a sedan, the Giulia will always have a weight and aerodynamic advantage over the Stelvio that translates into better fuel economy.
Wheelbase | Length | Height | Towing Capacity | |
---|---|---|---|---|
2025 Giulia | 111 inches | 182.5 inches | 56.5 inches | Not Rated |
2025 Stelvio | 111 inches | 184.6 inches | 66 inches | 3,000 pounds |
Here we can see more similarities and more differences. While the Giulia is made with enthusiasts in mind, the Stelvio is an SUV, and this has its own advantages. The first and most obvious of these is towing, which the Stelvio can handle with ease, while the Giulia isn’t rated for towing at all. The Stelvio is also taller, allowing for a higher driving position, which brings us to our next section.
Headroom (front / rear) | Legroom (front / rear) | Shoulder room (front / rear) | Total Passenger Volume | Starting MSRP | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2025 Giulia | 38.6 inches / 37.6 inches | 42.4 inches / 35.1 inches | 53.6 inches / 53.6 inches | 95 cubic feet | $46,195 |
2025 Stelvio | 40.2 inches / 38.9 inches | 36.6 inches / 31.9 inches | 57.5 inches / 56 inches | 116 cubic feet | $51,195 |
While these two vehicles might be built on the same platform, and even share an identical wheelbase, we can see some real differences in interior space. Each vehicle has its advantages, with the Stelvio offering more head and shoulder room, while the Giulia comes with a fair amount more legroom. Alfa Romeo doesn’t list the cargo space in the Giulia, but generally speaking, it’s safe to assume that there is less cargo space in a sedan than in an SUV. What we can tell you is that the Stelvio offers 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seats, expanding to 56.5 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. Lastly, the Giulia has a bit of a price advantage over the Stelvio. Some of that is due to the standard AWD on the Stelvio, but not all of it.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are both manufactured at the same assembly plant in Cassino, Italy which means that they will have many similarities. Still, there are differences that makes each vehicle a better fit for certain buyers. The Stelvio will appeal to those who prefer a higher seating position, more interior and cargo room, and the capability to tow a trailer on your next adventure, while the Giulia is probably more appealing if you’re a driving enthusiast who loves the feel of the road resulting from a sport suspension and rear wheel drive. The Stelvio can be more suited for families given it’s larger interior and cargo space while the Giulia can be the right choice for a single person, or a young couple who values image and style in their vehicles. The best news is there are no bad choices between the two – with each choice enabling you to tailor your new Alfa Romeo to the way you use a vehicle.
